Are there plans for a third installment?
Given the critical acclaim and commercial success of Top Gun: Maverick, an inevitable question has arisen among fans: Will there be a third film in the saga?
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer was recently asked about the possibility of a third installment in an interview with Variety and responded: “Tell me, I have no idea. Hopefully… We’ll see, you never know”. Furthermore, he mentioned that he has yet to discuss ideas for another movie with Tom Cruise. Since the latter is busy promoting Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment, Part 1 (2023).
Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has also pondered the possibility of a third film. Wondering if there’s another story compelling enough to warrant a return, as he said, “It seems to me that by the end of this movie, Maverick has some gas left in the tank. He’s not calming down.”
Tom Cruise
In the coming years we will see if the saga returns. But what is clear is that it has to be with Tom Cruise, since without him, it would not be the same. For now, we’re content to see him as Ethan Hunt in two more installments of Mission Impossible. In addition, he has other interesting projects such as the one that he intends to shoot in space.
