Marco Melandri speaks clearly about the future of Marc Marquez
Marc Marquez will only be able to win the World Championship again if he says goodbye to Honda. The former MotoGp centaur Marco Melandri in an interview with Mowmag does not mince words: “Marc is truly the phenomenon by definition. Even his approach, although sometimes it ends up being excessive. He keeps you glued to the screen whatever happens, even if it runs on its own there will be some unexpected events”.
But there’s no hope with Honda: “In the future, I’d see him in the world championship only if he managed to get on a KTM. And I say this for two reasons: the Honda has never been an easy bike, before he was able to make it look simple because he was fine and had incredible physical strength, then he’s on another level. KTM is spending so much money that in my opinion if they don’t win within two or three years they risk closing everything. Then there’s Red Bull in the middle, in my opinion it would make sense. Even before closing the contract with Honda. Because Marc costs Honda so much that if they have to pay these sums without winning, they will probably also willingly save that money. This is my idea though, I say it clearly”.
Honda itself could decide to get rid of Marquez: “In the end it’s almost counterproductive, because he’s the one who gets the result. In Ducati, on the other hand, there are eight bikes and more or less all of them go fast, so clearly the vehicle works. In Honda, it’s the opposite It’s Marc who does everything. And Honda has to sell bikes, not Marc Marquez.”
