TEHERAN – Naval Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Iran Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri flatly rejected the pretext of a military presence United States of America (US) in the Persian Gulf to maintain the security of the region.
He said only Iran and regional countries can keep the Persian Gulf safe.
“You are making a big mistake being here in our region,” Tangsiri said at an event in the city of Dezful on Sunday, which was reported by the Tehran Times, Monday (29/5/2023).
“If we surrender to the enemy, it will surely overwhelm us, and we have no choice but to stand up and fight back, which is the path to our country’s success,” he said.
Tangsiri also praised the city for its extraordinary resistance during Iraq’s invasion of Iran in the 1980s.
Tangsiri called Dezful a representation of resilience and invincibility. “During eight years of Sacred Defense, we showed the world that we do not and will not bow to pressure,” he said.
Iran has always regarded resistance to Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi army attacking Iran as a Holy Defence.
Tangsiri also emphasized the function of the national media in stemming enemy propaganda.
“We are firmly securing the Persian Gulf, and the media must participate in this security and reflect on the capabilities of the IRGC Navy and Ground Forces so that the world understands that the security of the Persian Gulf does not need foreigners,” Tangsiri said.
