Con PSVR2 already established in the market for a few months, it is time to take stock of the launch, and from Sony they assure that this second generation of virtual reality helmets would have surpassed the sales of its predecessor during the same period for sale. That is to say, would be selling faster.
PSVR2 hit stores last year February 22 along with several games among which Horizon: Call of the mountain, the first game in the Horizon series for virtual reality, stood out. Since then, would have already sold about 600,000 units.
PSVR2 follows the path planned by PlayStation
According to Sony itself (via VGC), with these 600,000 units sold, PSVR2 would be 8% above of sales of the company’s first generation of virtual reality glasses during its first six weeks on the market.
Several analysts previously suggested that PSVR2 would be able to place only 270,000 units in this period, so PSVR2 would be working better than expected. According to Bloomberg, Sony would have cut to just one million PSVR2 sales expectations in the first quarter of the year and 1.5 million between April 2023 and March 2024. Sony never commented on this estimate, but it hasn’t offered sales data to date either, only for the first six weeks.
In either case, it appears that PSV2 will continue to be one of Sony’s long-term bets, and VR games will have a prominent role in upcoming company events, such as the PlayStation Showcase tonight. are expected to see Playstation 5 and PSVR2 exclusive games both from Sony itself, and from third parties. Among them, the announcement of the more than leaked remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, although it would not be exclusive to Sony consoles.
