The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a huge game that presents endless secrets, both in the gameplay and in the narrative. As players move to inspect every nook and cranny, a new finding led the community to believe that a character belongs to the LGBTQIA+ community.
Before proceeding, it is very important to note that there will be spoilers minors from the Nintendo video game. No major details of the overall story are revealed.
In 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Calip appears, a minor character investigating the Ancient Shrines. In the 2023 sequel, he returns and is now part of a research team alongside a new character known as Taurus, who is a historian.
Does The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom feature the franchise’s first gay character?
In Kakariko Village, players can find Calip’s journal in the research team’s base. The note drew attention, as it exposes the alleged feelings and thoughts of its author. Specifically, it reveals an interaction between Calip and Taurus.
In the diary, Calip remembers the time Taurus asked him why he decided to join the team. “A little nervous, I replied that I heard that his research division was headed by a brilliant man named Taurus,” reads the text. Calip then proceeds to share thoughts about him that he never shared with his co-worker.

“’For you, essentially.’ I meant it, and my heart yearned to continue… ‘You’re not like the other fools, you know. You immediately catch the breadth of my vision.’ Of course, such a thing did not pass my lips ”, reads the newspaper.
This statement suggests that Calip is gay, and in that case he would be the first gay character in the Nintendo franchise. However, at no time are the researcher’s preferences explicitly revealed. Thus, his orientation is up to now mere speculation and conjecture.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the translation is inaccurate and changes the context of the conversation, although, as the Kotaku portal indicates, Calip has some moments when he is nervous and excited when he is around Taurus. Either way, it will be interesting to find out if Nintendo confirms or denies this theory.
But tell us, do you think Nintendo opted for inclusion? Let us read you in the comments.
