Royal Enfield will almost certainly introduce a 650 scrambler this year. The new model could take the name of Scram, Sherpa or Interceptor
12 maggio 2023
As our colleagues at MOTORRAD point out, the rumor that Royal Enfield was busy “churn out” a new Scrambler 650 had been around the web for some time. But now, thanks to these spy photos, we can get our hands on the fire.
In India, a 650 Scrambler prototype was spotted the Royal Enfield, apparently already finished. However, we still do not know what the new model will be called. Scrambler 650, Scram 650, Sherpa 650 or will it be a new Interceptor? Whatever the name of the model, the official market launch is scheduled for 2023 and therefore it would be of the fourth model which would be added to the already well-known 650 cc Interceptor and Continental GT and to the Super Meteor cruiser, also 650 cc. Also, in India we are already talking about other variants with the same engine, including a true enduro, the Himalayan 650, and a bobber called Shotgun, derived from the Meteor 650 cruiser model.
There shouldn’t be much variation on the engine, a twin-cylinder 648cc and 48bhp (35kW) at 7,000rpm. Thanks to these values, Enfield fits perfectly, and strategically, in motorcycles that can be ridden with A2 European licenses. The 6-speed gearbox should also remain unchanged.
There are therefore many similarities, and above all few differences, with the Interceptor 650. The Scrambler will apparently have a different exhaust system, with a 2-into-1 design and a slightly higher handlebar.
Other characteristic features of the Scramblers featured on the Royal Enfield prototype are the classic spoked wheels. However, it is not clear whether these are 18-inch wheels, like on the 650 Interceptor, or if the Scrambler will mount 17-inch wheels. The most obvious change is the use of an upside down fork, technical feature that differentiates it from most Royal Enfield models. Guards to vulnerable parts, such as the oil cooler, engine and exhaust system, look very, very strong. This feature does not surprise us at all as a characteristic trait of these bikes.
And what do you think the new model will be called? Write it in the comments!
