On the BMW R 1200 and R1250 models, the single-sided Paralever swingarm with integrated cardan shaft is fixed to the frame by means of a bolt and pin. There is a fixed bearing pin on one side of the swingarm pivot point and an adjustable floating pin on the opposite side. Both are equipped with tapered roller bearings. The cast aluminum swingarm sits between the two bearing pivots and can, of course, be rotated, but without a continuous axle.
Hence the idea of the German Emil Schwarz and the Swede Jürgen Widmann, who specializes in BMW models with boxer engine for over 20 years, who designed and developed a wishbone axle for the rear suspension.
Black and Widmann they achieved this goal in early 2023 presenting the prototype at the IMOT motorcycle fair in Munich with the sectional view of the mechanism and offer the possibility of conversion from BMW’s standard system to their patent for the R1200 models of the early 2000s up to the current R1250.
