a violent storm has affected the community of Madrid in the late afternoon of Monday 29 May, flooding several neighborhoods. The water that fell, all at once, suddenly flooded the streets, infiltrating the sewage system, and creating real waterfalls inside the subway of the city.

According to the official weather stations of the Aemet network, they are over the city of Madrid up to 23 liters of rain fell per square metre, all concentrated in an hour or so. The storms mainly affected the neighborhoods of San Blas, Hortaleza, Canillejas and Barajas, where the most widespread flooding occurred.

Due to the heavy rains, some road accidents have occurred in the city of Madrid, both in the city network and in the motorway network. The storms have caused flight delays and diversions at Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport. Firefighters carried out more than 30 interventions in the very first hours, mostly due to the flooding of streets and basements.
The heavy rains also added to the hailwhich worsened the situation, preventing the outflow of water, and creating floods in various parts of the Spanish capital, causing branches and leaves to fall from the trees.
