At the beginning of May, the writers’ strike led by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) broke out. HBO confirmed this morning that the event has already affected several of its productions, including The Last of Us.
Various reports claimed that the strike had already had an impact on the popular series, but it is only now that HBO officially confirmed it. Francesca Orsi, executive and manager of the company’s dramatic series, spoke about the effects of the strike and what will happen to Joel and Ellie’s adventure. Likewise, she took the opportunity to comment on a possible Season 3.

Season 2 of The Last of Us is on hiatus due to strike
In recent statements, Orsi confirmed that the writers’ strike has already impacted The Last of Us, his plans for Game of Thrones and other series like White Lotus. The writing of the next seasons of these productions is stopped, which will surely impact their release date.
Orsi is still hopeful that the conflict will be resolved and that it will not affect the series so much that he will have to adjust the 2024 and 2025 schedule. He assured that it is still too early to measure the real effect that the strike will have, but everything indicates that the release of Season 2 of The Last of Us is committed.
“We were thinking of The Last of Us for 2025. And the ideal was that The White Lotus would come out in 2024, but there are doubts about the development of the strike,” said Orsi.
On the other hand, the directive was questioned about the possibilities of seeing a Season 3 of The Last of Us. He stated that, for now, it is not guaranteed and that they are focused on the second season, but did not completely rule out that the series will continue after the new episodes they are working on.
“I think Craig and Neil are still thinking about the ending. We’ve vaguely heard that there will be a third season idea for the show, but right now, we’re taking it one season at a time. Right now there’s no guarantee that we’re going to have a third season, but I know they both have a vision for season 3. I still don’t know if that lends itself to doing more (seasons),” Orsi concluded.
