Suara.com – The Indonesian Capital City Logo (IKN) was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo today, Tuesday (30/5/23). The logo is themed on a tree of life designed by Aulia Akbar.
The IKN logo was chosen by the public through open voting from 4 April 2023 to 21 May 2023. The number of voters was around 500,000 people.
“The logo with the most voters is chosen, it’s not the president who chooses, be careful. This is the one who chooses the people, there are 500,000 voters, not a small number,” he said in his speech.
In the process of making this logo, approximately 500 designers followed it. Then, the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI) curated 10 selected designs.

“More than 500 designers participated, and the Indonesian Graphic Design Association (ADGI) curated 10 selected designs,” explained the Head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono.
Meaning of the Tree of Life
The tree was chosen with a meaning that follows and inspires. In this regard, it is interesting to know about the Tree of Life which was chosen as the official logo of IKN.
The Tree of Life, which was chosen as the official logo of the IKN, means the tree of life. President Jokowi hopes that this logo will be able to inspire IKN to create a new life for all Indonesian people.
“Hopefully this logo will inspire IKN to create new life for all of us, the source of life for all Indonesian people. The tree of life logo is in line with the development of IKN, fostering a sense of national identity as a large and plural nation,” said Joko Widodo.

Jokowi believes that this logo is in line with the development of the IKN, fostering a sense of the nation as a large and plural nation’s identity. The purpose of choosing this logo for Jokowi is for the community to protect the environment.
“And inspire us to protect nature and the environment and ecosystems,” Jokowi added.
The logo is a tree-shaped logo with a golden brown trunk and branches below. Then there is also a circle in the middle with the sides jutting out.
The person who designed the selected logo is Aulia Akbar. He is a graphic designer from Bandung. Aulia Akbar is an ITENAS graduate and co-founder of POT Branding House.
Aulia Akbar admitted that he was inspired by the design of the tree of life after tracing Indonesian culture from Sabang to Merauke.
Aulia tries to find what the nation brings and a form that all of them have in common. Aulia also conveyed that this tree of life is a sign of Indonesia’s diversity.
“So the inspiration for that is from our search for our own culture, from Sabang to Merauke, what we are looking for. What do we bring, one form that all have in common in the form of the cosmology of the tree of life. It is in the form of a tree of life that we can find ,” Aulia told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (30/5/2023).
Previously, the target was to officially move the capital city of Indonesia from Jakarta to Kalimantan Island in August 2024. To be precise, this moment will be held at the Indonesian Independence Day ceremony in 2024 in North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara Regencies, East Kalimantan.
