LONDON – The new British warship under development, HMS Glasgow, was reported to have been sabotaged. An initial investigation found dozens of the ship’s cables had been cut.
According to the UK Defense report, the alleged sabotage on the ship is related to payment problems. Currently, the developer is reviewing the necessary fixes following the move.
Specifications of British battleship HMS Glasgow
HMS Glasgow is the first generation Type 26 frigate being developed by the UK. Called the City class frigates, HMS Glasgow is designed as a multi-mission warship supporting a wide range of operations.
Quoting the Royal Navy page, Monday (15/5/2023), HMS Glasgow is currently under construction beside the River Clyde, Glasgow.
In its design, the flight deck of this ship will be prepared to be able to accommodate helicopters up to the size of the Chinook RAF.
Looking at its history, HMS Glasgow touched waters for the first time in December 2022. At that time, the 6,000-ton warship was moved from BAE System’s Govon shipyard to continue its construction.
As part of the Type 26 Frigate, this ship is planned to replace the Type 23 Frigate, the Royal Navy’s first anti-submarine warfare ship.
Promoted as a ship that is compatible with many missions, later HMS Glasgow can be used for various operations such as disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, military operations, and so on.
Turning to its features, HMS Glasgow is equipped with world-class active and passive crane sonar arrays. These components allow it to detect, classify, and track enemy submarines.
While in terms of performance, this British warship is estimated to be able to carry up to 161 personnel. Meanwhile, the speed of HMS Glasgow is estimated at around 26+ knots.
With a number of other developments and enhancements underway for this ship, HMS Glasgow is claimed to be a highly capable global combat ship that is flexible for many missions.
It is worth waiting later whether the British warship HMS Glasgow meets expectations or is it different.
