What can we do with that huge pond in the middle of the neighborhood? The Hengelo district of Tuindorp ‘t Lansink still benefits from the answer to that question, more than 100 years ago. The Tuindorpbad – because that was the answer to the question – is all about its 100th anniversary this entire swimming season: started in 1923, once almost permanently closed due to cutbacks, but partly due to the efforts of the local residents, it is now the oldest natural swimming pool in the Netherlands . “Unique”, says board member Janine Francken proudly.
