May 30 – Budapest (Hungary)
On the eve of the Europa League final, the high tension that has (at least) been felt in Rome in the last week also invades Budapest. Many fans have already arrived in the Hungarian capital and by tonight there will be most of the approximately twenty thousand expected tomorrow at the Puskas Arena. To the 15,500 who managed to buy tickets made available by Roma, we must add at least another 4-5 thousand who grabbed a coupon in the stadium stands. A maxi exodus that saw fans engaged in aerial jams with improbable stopovers (from Cagliari to Copenhagen, while the most popular were Munich, Vienna, Belgrade and Bratislava); mixed travel plane/train, plane/car, train/car; daring crossings entirely in minivan or car (there are 1,221 kilometres, not exactly the Raccordo tour).
The familiar faces
—
Many Giallorossi VIPs are also expected in Budapest, many of whom are invited directly by the club which has also made available a charter that left from Fiumicino in the morning. Among them Francesco Totti with his son Cristian and his new partner Noemi, the former president Rosella Sensi, former players who remained deeply attached to Rome such as Candela, Rizzitelli, Cassetti and Perrotta. Then Valerio Mastandrea, Edoardo Leo, Antonello Venditti, Damiano dei Maneskin, Noemi and Blanco, all very declared fans. Like the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri and the president of Coni Giovanni Malagò, both present tomorrow evening. Malagò himself wanted to personally organize a trip by flight for 140 friends to “conquer” Budapest. Also attending the appointment will be the Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, and the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina.
Fan zone
—
While waiting for the match, fans will be able to refer to the fan zones set up by UEFA, arranged on opposite sides of the Puskas Arena. The Giallorossi supporters are expected at City Park, those of Sevilla at Kincsem Park. Certainly many will go to the central Heroes’ Square (Hosok Tere) where the Fan Festival is scheduled, with live music, stands, futsal fields and even a Europa League trophy in maxi format. And for tonight the Roma club Hungary has made an appointment for everyone at the Habakuk bar, to find together the best way to bear the wait.
At the Olympic
—
But preparations are obviously going crazy in Rome too. The heart of the city will once again be the Stadio Olimpico, one step away from yet another seasonal sold out, this time only thanks to the giant screens that will broadcast the final, just like a year ago for the Conference League. The 53,000 tickets sold have already passed (14 euros for season-ticket holders, 20 for others), against the 40,000 for the triumph against Feyenoord. There will be six giant screens, two under each grandstand (Monte Mario and Tiber), one in front of the two curves. The Municipality and Sport e Salute are ready for every possible post-match scenario (pitch invasion, parties and carousels around the city and in particular in the classic meeting points in the center). The fans, on the other hand, prefer not to think about all this…
