The new name of the platform dispenses with the acronym “HBO”, which makes the change even more surreal and encourages mockery from users.
HBO Max gave way yesterday in the United States to Max, the new streaming service of Warner Bros. Discovery that merges the contents of the platform with those of Discovery+. This change will become effective in the rest of the countries soon.
At Warner they want to achieve a more complete service with a varied catalog of series and movies and various account enhancements that will enhance the user experience.

Of course, it cannot be said that they have put the same enthusiasm when it comes to finding names, The change from HBO Max to, simply, “Max”, regardless of the initials of HBO (Home Box Office), seems like a somewhat ridiculous which, unsurprisingly, fans have pointed out.

The service has had names like HBO Now, HBO Go and the recent HBO Max, something that has led fans to continue the saga with names like “HBO Tokyo Drift”, “HBO Fury Road” or “HBO: On Stranger Tides”.
There are also quite a few taunts towards David Zaslav himself and the fact that, according to some users, his successor will revoke all the changes and relaunch the original HBO.
The absence of “HBO” in the new name has even led to the surreal tagline of “What you have to see to see HBO”, which accompanies Max.
It remains to be seen if the change of image, name, more complete catalog and the new conditions for users of the evolution of HBO Max is successful. The price increases that Max brings with him can be decisive, especially if his programming does not end up attracting people.
