Those who thought that Alfred Molina would not return to a Marvel movie were very wrong!! Warning spoilers
Alfred Molina’s performance as the fearsome Doc Octopus in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 has long been acclaimed as has the film been considered one of the best superhero movies ever; and the return of Molina in Spider-Man: No Way Home of 2021 was highly applauded by fans. But when it comes to appearing in the Spider-Man franchises, for the actor, three really is the magic number.
A new trailer for Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse featured a surprising cameo from Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. At the 0:20 mark, the actor’s voice can be heard saying, “Hello, Peter,” just as he did in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This could be why Molina dodged the question of whether she would ever return to her Marvel role late last year, telling Vanity Fair: “I can neither confirm nor deny it.”
However, while the voice definitely belongs to Molina, the trailer shows Miles meeting a different version of the mad scientist.
In fact, this Doc Ock looks like the original comic book design rather than Alfred Molina’s version in Spider-Man 2 by Sam Raimi or Spider-Man: No Way Home of 2021.
Will Crossing the Multiverse Include Live-Action Spider-Man Villains?
Alfred Molina confirmed that his role as Octopus in Spider-Man: No Way Home will have to do with that of his previous participation
In a movie that features nearly every Spider-Man from across the Multiverse, it makes sense that various versions of the wall-crawling villains would also appear.
If so, that could be why audiences are listening to Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, all while watching another.
This is not the first time either crossing the multiverse refers to MCU events. One of the first trailers for the film introduced Spider-Man 2099, mentioning Doctor Strange and Tom Holland and what happened in No Way Home.
It is unknown if Spider-man: Crossing the multiverse it will show Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, or any live-action Spidey. However, this same trailer showed Spot interacting with the live-action world, suggesting that the film isn’t limited to animation and could hint at others to come.
Spider-Man: Crossing the Multiverse hits theaters on Friday, June 2.
