The release of Redfall has not gone exactly as expected Microsoft. Arkane’s title has encountered the harsh reality of press and public criticism, receiving a historic setback. Despite great releases like Forza Horizon 5, Grounded or Microsoft Flight Simulator, it is clear that there are big bumps in the division of Phil Spencer.
Many of them have been lived through Xbox Game Pass, the beacon that guides much of Xbox’s designs and one of its star services. Released on June 1, 2017 and leading the way for games created by the 23 developers at Xbox Game Studios, these are some of the most notorious bugs.
Redfall
The most recent and one of the most painful. Redfall stood as one of Microsoft’s most important chips for the 2023 game, but Arkane has ended up failing in its mission. Far from proposals as round as Prey or Dishonored, the vampire hunt has crashed with all of the law in a wound that will take time to heal in the developer.
Sea of Thieves
A great example of how to improve a game over time, but the truth is that the launch of Sea of Thieves was not full of joy. The work of Rare it had the best of intentions to launch us to sail the seas with friends, although the lack of content doomed it. It still sports a 69 on Metacritic for the lack of variety of modes and options when it was released in 2018.
State of Decay 2
Undead Labs He wanted to win us over with a formula that, well refined, has all the ingredients to win over the public. State of Decay 2 didn’t make it due to serious technical problems, a compelling and annoying need to collect resources everywhere that made the dynamic of killing zombies tedious. At least we could hold our own against the infected in company.
Crackdown 3
The power of Microsoft Azure it would make Crackdown 3’s destructible environments the most spectacular in a long time. None of this prevented the hit of Sumo Digital with the third installment of the franchise. The multiplayer mode with the Wrecking Zone was entertaining, but we are talking about a sandbox project that was far from the big AAA productions. There were those who thought that paying 60 euros for him was exaggerated.
Bleeding Edge
Ninja Theory is very focused on Hellblade 2, but Bleeding Edge will always be a blot on its history. A very poor 66 on Metacritic for the multiplayer arena that had a very difficult to identify visual aspect. Quirky characters without much sense to fight in battles where you use powers as crazy as freezing rivals in time, riding missiles or controlling minds. A risky proposal that did not work.
Battletoads
The return of an industry legend. We all tore our hair out decades ago over Battletoads’ infamous levels, but its set-up for today slipped. A beat’em up socarrón, with a lot of humor, although it did not add anything new to the formula. You either loved it or you hated it, so she was halfway to convincing the public.
Halo Infinite
Separating the online modes on the one hand and completely free, the Halo Infinite campaign took longer to arrive than expected. All Xbox Series X/S consoles featured images of the Master Chief welcoming us to the new generation, but 343 Industries needed more cooking time. The idea of the hook and the open world seemed to marry, although the reiteration of liberation of camps revealed the seams. There are passages of the plot that were novelized and the promise of a DLC has not been fulfilled while the multiplayer does receive content.
Minecraft Dungeons
One of those rare occasions when Mojang strays from the classic norm and opts for a groundbreaking genre. Minecraft Legends opted for the dungeon crawlers aspect with friends in a much lighter kind of Diablo, but that was precisely one of the critical points. Just five hours are needed to complete a game which was intended to be more ambitious than it really was.
Minecraft Legends
It hasn’t been on the Minecraft Legends market for long, but it has gone unnoticed before our eyes. This time Mojang went all-in on real-time strategy to score a paltry 67 on Metacritic, repeating mistakes of the past. A hint of Age of Empires without the complexity and depth of the World’s Edge franchise. Lack of options and content which leaves it at the bottom of the RTS genre.
