Sumatran voice – Two TNI members, Sergeant Yalpin Tarzun and Private Private Rian Hermawan, were sentenced to life in prison. Both were arrested carrying 75 kg of methamphetamine and 40 thousand ecstasy.
The verdict of the panel of judges at the Medan I-02 Military Court was lower than the prosecutor’s demand that they be sentenced to death.
The sentencing trial for the two TNI members was held on Monday 29 May 2023. Apart from being sentenced to life imprisonment, the two were also dismissed from military service in the TNI.
In their verdict, the two defendants were proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) UURI No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

“The main sentence is for life, the additional sentence is dismissal from military service,” Chief Judge Colonel Chk Asril Siagian said during the trial.

Meanwhile, the mitigating factor, namely the defendant admits his actions, has carried out state duties several times while serving in the TNI.
“That the defendants have not received the promised wages,” he explained.
Reportedly, the two defendants were arrested by the NIC Task Force Team of the Directorate of Narcotics Crime Bareskrim in December 2022.

Initially the police received information that there would be methamphetamine and ecstasy smuggling in the North Sumatra region.
An investigation was carried out to arrest the two TNI members in the Deli Serdang Regency area. The police then confiscated 75 kg of methamphetamine and 40 thousand ecstasy pills as evidence.
