The ferry from Merak Harbor, Banten-Bakauheni, Lampung caught fire on Saturday (6/5). As quoted from Antara, the fire incident occurred at around 15:20 WIB.
The evacuation process for the passengers was also carried out by the Banten Basarnas together with the Banten Regional Police Polairud. The evacuation process for the passengers took place quite dramatically.
In the video, hundreds of passengers wearing life jackets are removed one by one from the burning ferry.
“The process of evacuating the passengers of the Royce 1 ferry which caught fire in the waters of Merak Harbor by Banten Police Headquarters, Saturday 6 May 2023,” the narration reads in the video.

It can be seen from the video that was uploaded, as long as it was thick it was steaming on the side of the ferry. In another part of the video, fire and thick smoke can be seen behind the ferry.
“We are currently evacuating the KMP Royce 1 accident that caught fire in the Merak – Bakauheuni Crossing Route,” said Banten Basarnas Operations Head Heru.
The chronology of events, initially a truck in the KMP Royce 1 Indonesian Flag MMSI Number 525100336 caught fire and until now the fire is still in the process of extinguishing it.
It is not yet known regarding the number of fatalities, but from the information obtained a number of passengers have been evacuated.
