Disney+ has just removed a Marvel series that lasted three seasons as part of its content purge
Disney’s streaming service recently conducted its first content purge, with several major movies and series, including some Disney+ Originals, being removed. Marvel studios docu-series MPower and Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever which were originally slated for removal eventually ended up sticking around while Marvel’s Project Hero was unfortunately removed.
However, it is not the only Marvel content that Disney + has removed.
The Serie Runawayswhich was developed for Hulu under Marvel Television, has been removed from both Hulu and Disney+.
The removal comes amid Disney+’s content purge of various movies and series. This particular removal comes as quite a surprise, however, as it wasn’t on the list that Deadline initially published.
Runaways aired for three seasons on Hulu between 2017 and 2019 and was very well received by fans and critics, currently holding an 84% critic rating and 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Where can you watch the series from now on?
As Runaways never received a physical release, the options for watching the series have become limited after its removal on Hulu and Disney+. However, episodes of the Marvel series can still be purchased on select digital platforms at this time.
Runaways saw six teenagers discover their parents’ supervillain identities, forcing them to band together to stop their nefarious plans.
Will they have a reboot?
Runaways never had any direct crossover with a MCU project. So its canon status is still as controversial as other Marvel Television projects like SHIELD Agents and the Netflix series.
WandaVision featured an in-canon conflict with Runaways and Agents of SHIELD by presenting a version of the Darkhold clearly different from the one shown in the two Marvel Television projects.
However, despite not being canon, the loss of Runaways from all streaming platforms with no physical purchase options available will be disappointing to many. Especially to those fans of the team of young heroes who want to enjoy the three seasons of the series again.
Disney+’s decision to scrap the series will leave many thinking that not being part of true MCU canon leaves the door open for the team to reboot under Marvel Studios in a movie or new series.
The series ended with a mystery that is doomed to remain unsolved forever, as that iteration of the Runaways is unlikely to ever return.
While it’s unclear if Marvel Studios has any plans to use the team again, it has been confirmed that Runaways member Nico Minoru will appear in the animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year as one of Peter Parker’s high school friends.
What do you think they have removed from Disney + Runaways? Will they also remove Capa and dagger from the platform? Run to see her before they do!
