Super Smash Bros. It is one of the most popular fighting game sagas in history, and one of Nintendo’s best assets for selling Nintendo Switch consoles by the bucketload (Super Samsh Bros. Ultimate is the third best-selling game on the console, more than 30 million copies).
Many companies have tried to replicate the formula with rather little success. About ten years ago Sony was heavily criticized for PlayStation AllStars, the clone of Smash Bros. More recently, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl and Warner’s MultiVersus have tried… without much success either way.
But if there is a company that can challenge Nintendo, it is Disney. And lately a certain “Disney Domination“, a “smash-like” from Disney, developed by Square Enixwhich honestly sounds too good to be true.
And it’s probably not real. What does not mean that it is fascinating to imagine it.
The allegedly leaked images of Disney Domination
The first time Disney Domination was discussed was in March 2023, in a Reddit post now deleted, but commented on by media such as Dexerto.
Today he has returned to the CrazyHand subreddit, dedicated to the world of Smash Bros., with more leaked images and details of a mammoth project, from AAA scaleand in mode game as a serviceDeveloping since 2018.
It would have 55 characters, 60 maps and 70 launch items Characters from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars One leaked character list does not show Sora (who is in Smash) but does show Kingdom Hearts influence on Donald and Goofy Also a “huge” single player story mode with 2D platforming Many online modes, including battles for 12 players at once “The Lounge”, a online hub where players would go to chat and share custom maps, music or skins Made with Unreal Engine 5 and realistic and edgy graphics “Mickey Mouse would go into anime mode”
Other leaks, via Insider Gaming, talk about the development team starting with just 25 people and today 240 developers, in an unspecified studio at Square Enix.
What do you think of this? It sounds too good to be true… especially the part where he says it will be a game as a service… with 50 launch characters. No one believes that!
Too many “red flags” in Disney Domination
The problem is that none of these leaks has been corroborated from other reliable sources. The identity of the people who have leaked these images and details is also unknown: today’s Reddit post appears to be from an account created hours ago.
Most likely, everything you see and read about Disney Domination is nothing more than “shitpost”, a elaborate fake with some images to mislead perhaps created by AI.
Which is still an interesting project, which would not be out of place for current Disney, which is having quite a success with its games Disney Dreamlight Valley (clone of The Sims) and Disney Speedstorm (clone of Mario Kart). Why not also a Smash Bros. clone?
