A few days ago we talked about the measures that Disney is going to take to reduce expenses after the announcement that it has lost four million subscribers with Disney +. His idea is to follow Warner’s recipe with HBO: integrate several of its platforms under a single umbrella and eliminate series from its catalog. Purpose: Save $3 billion in 2023 from the $30,000 they spent in fiscal 2022.
In the footsteps of HBO. There was a lot of talk about HBO’s cuts in their day: they ended a good part of their animated production, they sent such emblematic series as ‘Westworld’ off the platform and they directly wiped practically finished films like ‘Batgirl’, which was planned, off the map. as an exclusive HBO Max premiere. Disney’s intent is to remove less viewed or expensive content due to residual payments or royalties. “It’s critical that we rationalize the volume of content and what we spend on producing it,” Bob Iger said at the meeting where he announced these measures.
Some series that disappear from Disney. The French website Disney+ Actu has listed more than twenty series and films that will disappear on May 26 from the French version of the service. At the moment, Disney+ Spain has not commented on whether these productions are also going to disappear from the Spanish version of the service, but it is conceivable that even if they do not coincide in dates or in all the titles, Disney’s global decision to do without different series will end up condemning them in other territories.
Some notable disappearances. It calls the attention of ‘Willow’, that although we knew that it had been a failure in the audience and had not managed to attract enough public attention, it is still a popular franchise and that it gave the platform a certain luster. Apparently, not even Marvel is spared: some ‘Black Panther’ documentary and, above all, ‘Runaways’, leave the service. But be careful, keep in mind that the latter, for example, is a Hulu series, and with the service dance you can find a location on another platform. The same is true of the highly publicized ‘Pistol’ or ‘Motherland’, which comes from Freeform, also owned by Disney.
