The world premiere of the new version of Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid movie “Little Mermaid” has just taken place and the first reactions from critics have been revealed.
The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and energetic young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. Ariel, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, longs to know more about the world beyond the sea, and as she visits the surface, she falls in love with the handsome Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the wicked sea witch, Ursula, that gives her the chance to experience life on land, but she ultimately puts her life and her father’s crown in jeopardy.
It is worth mentioning that we recently published that Rob Marshall, the film’s director, changed the lyrics of “Kiss the Girl” because Ariel cannot be kissed without her permission. The common theme remains that the visuals are simply missing compared to the animated version, and the story is disjointed. Suffice to say, it looks like Disney definitely saved the underwater CGI budget for Avatar: The Way of Water instead of the live-action The Little Mermaid movie.
However, many critics praise Halle Bailey’s performance and call the film Disney’s best live-action. Unfortunately, we are living in times where the press or so-called “critics” are sold, because we still do not know if Disney is paying for a positive reaction campaign… Here are some of the critics who could already see the film at the premiere in Los Angeles California:
“#TheLittleMermaid is pretty close to being Disney’s best live-action movie, however, it still struggles in the villain department. Halle Bailey ES Ariel and I literally had goosebumps during her performance. This is a little mermaid retelling like you’ve never seen her before.”

“Disney’s #TheLittleMermaid is definitely one of the best live action adaptations. Halle Bailey pours incredible emotion into Ariel and it gave me chills to watch her, as Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula and Daveed Diggs’ Sebastian steal scenes all day.”

“#TheLittleMermaid is a live-action remake that retains the heart and soul of the story we know and love, and is elevated even higher with a star-perfect performance from Halle Bailey – she was born to be on the big screen, And she is the reason why this new version is worth seeing.”

“It may look visually harsh under the sea, but THE LITTLE MERMAID finally recreates some of the magic of the original through its timeless story and cast. Daveed Diggs and Melissa McCarthy are the highlights, but Halle Bailey is the one who wows with her beautiful singing and her empathetic charm.

“#TheLittleMermaid is packed with some great performances from Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, but it’s a mostly paint-by-numbers remake that isn’t nearly as good as the animated masterpiece.”

“Disney’s live action is magical, emotional and enchanting. Rob Marshall just directed Disney’s best live action movie. The beautiful music by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken shines through. Halle Bailey is absolutely extraordinary! and Melissa McCarthy is a mean Ursula.”
