WEST BANDUNG VOICE – All students of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung took part in commemorating the 25th 98th reform in 2023.
The commemoration of reform is intended as one of the aims to preserve the memory of the ideals of reform, namely the instilling of the values of equality and freedom.
“We need to take care to remember, so that the ideals of the spirit of reform do not fade along with the development of the nation and the country today,” said Gilang Ramadhan, Minister for Strategic Issues Studies at the UIN Bandung Student Executive Council.
The event commemorating the 98 reform anniversary was attended by all students of UIN Bandung by watching the film Di Balik ’98 together.

When asked the reason why the film was chosen, it was because the film produced by MNC Pictures was considered to give another meaning to the student demonstrations demanding reform.
“Here we see how the 98 reforms actually had a lot of psychological and sociological impacts on Indonesian society, especially the ethnic Chinese community, it turns out that there are also those who are fighting for reform as this film describes it,” said Maulana Ihsan, special staff of DEMA UIN Bandung in a discussion session after watching together.
In addition, DEMA UIN Sunan Gunung Djati also gave a position regarding efforts to resolve all forms of past gross human rights violations which today have not yet found a clear spot.

That the collective memory of a nation is important. Moreover, an incident in which there was a blatant violation of basic human rights.
The reason, DEMA UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung gave the attitude:
1. Will always remember and demand that cases of past gross human rights violations be resolved and that justice be given to the survivors;
2. That the collective memory of a nation is a link for those who are aware of history so that justice must be ensured for those who were dwarfed in the incidents of human rights violations. Not being serious about efforts to provide justice is another language for tarnishing the image and identity of the nation;
3. DEMA UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung fully supports the government’s actions to provide legal certainty by issuing policies to resolve cases of past gross human rights violations;
4. DEMA UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung supports efforts to reconcile the nation for past serious human rights crimes if the legal certainty and truth are clear. It is brighter than the sun. This is intended as an effort towards a commitment to realizing the ideals of Indonesian independence.
