The Turkish car industry does not seem to be that big at first. If we ask you to name a few Turkish car brands, it will be difficult. Of course there is the promising brand Togg. And do not forget about the amount of cars produced in Turkey. Think of Ford Otosan, Oyak-Renault and Honda Türkiye. In addition, there are also Turkish car brands that have unfortunately stopped, such as Devrik, Askam and Anadol.
And then there is also Türk Otomobil Fabrikası Anonim Şirketi, or Tofas. The brand currently makes passenger cars and commercial vehicles for Stellantis brands such as Citroen, Fiat, Opel and Peugeot. But the brand has been around since 1968 and mainly builds cars under license. That is no different with the Tofas Dogan.

Then we will now explain in a few sentences what a Tofas Dogan is. Look, since 1977 Tofas has been building a large sedan that is basically a slightly modified Fiat 131. This large sedan will initially be marketed as the Tofas Murat 131. In 1981, the name Sahin was also used for this model, as well as the Kartal.
The Sahin is slightly simpler and the Kartal is a station wagon. The Tofas Dogan is the luxury version with the large engine. Now that is very relative, but a 1.6 with five-speed gearbox was quite nice in the 1980s. The Dogan also had items such as fabric upholstery (instead of imitation leather) and a felt-lined trunk. Yes, that was luxury in 1981.
Very elderly Fiat 131
Price-wise, the Tofas Dogan was very interesting. You had a large mid-sized car with luxurious equipment and a large engine compared to an equally expensive European lean C-segment hatchback. The Tofas Dogan remained in production for a long time. One couldn’t get enough of it.
The basis remained the now very old Fiat 131, but the exterior received the necessary changes. Due to its popularity and the fact that it was in production for so long, the aftermarket scene for this car is huge. They are now cool cult cars, especially in the right version.

If you think: “I also want a Tofas Dogan!” then we have good news for you. There are two for sale on marketplace for sale. Yes, twice! And in both cases they are nice and thick and equipped with red lacquer.
The first is a 1.6 SLX that can run on both petrol and LPG. The car is equipped with a new engine, BBS rims and a real sports exhaust. It is not clear whether they are real BBS wheels, if they are, the car is easily worth the asking price of 8,500 euros. The car is from 1993 and has run for miles. The other copy is also dark red in color and has run ‘15,000’ km. Then you know one thing for sure, it’s probably much more than that. Perhaps a new engine has also been installed here.
