On March 24, John Wick 4 landed in theaters, the long-awaited new installment of the famous action saga starring Keanu Reeves whose story apparently came to its conclusion.
And we say “apparently” because long before the premiere of the film the possibility of a fifth installment of the franchise was being considered. What’s more, even after the premiere of John Wick 4, that possibility was still being considered.
However, Chad Stahelski, director of the saga, is increasingly less optimistic and believes that in the end he will not go ahead with John Wick 5.
The definitive end of John Wick?
During a recent interview with The Direct, Chad Stahelski was asked again what he thought about the chances of a John Wick 5. Although he reiterated his desire to pause before a possible sequel, the filmmaker has apparently backed down on that idea and now He sees it as unlikely to make a new film.
“The real question you ask yourself is not: ‘Do I want it?’ Yeah, I wouldn’t mind doing it. We’re just trying to knock it out of the park. We’re trying to put everything on the table, take nothing and leave everything. Like, ‘fuck every idea. We’re not saving anything. We’re not trying to build Just everything you have, leave it there.’
We felt like we put everything we had into John Wick 4, and we felt like we came full circle.. We feel like we finished it. So we felt like, ‘you know, that was a great way to wrap up the previous three movies and the fourth one and deliver something satisfying and fun.’
Right now, if you put a gun to my head, you might as well shoot me. It is very easy to be repetitive. The trick is how to be repetitive with individuality. How do you put your authorship or your agency on something that has obviously been done three times before?“said the filmmaker.
Although John Wick may have reached its final endActually, this has only just begun, as this rich universe will expand with new, most interesting productions, such as the prequel series The Continental or the movie spin-off Ballerina starring Ana de Armas, in which Keanu Reeves will be back.
