Veterans of CD Projekt RED, of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, found a studio “tired of an increasingly conservative industry” and announce their first game.
It is very common to see in the industry of video game to many veterans, with years of experience in games AAA in large publishers, abandon ship and found their own companies starting from scratch. That is the case of Blank.
This new firm has opened in warsaw and at the moment it only has 10 members, most of them from CD Projekt RED, who have worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
In their cover letter, they explain that they are tired of working for years in an “increasingly conservative” industry, and now they want to bold and impressive projects who share their creativity and values.
A post-apocalyptic game with a “twist”
The first game from this studio, which aims to have up to 60 employees, is a game “character-driven“, that is, centered on the story of the characters, set in a post-apocalyptic world.
The image you can see above is the only concept art released so far by Blank about this untitled game, which will have “a twist or two.”
“When the industry advocates a dictatorship of the creative individual, we want to give ownership to the team. When the industry leans on crunch culture, we prefer work/life balance. When the industry says more is better, we focus on very polished games focused on emotion, story and crafting,” says Mateusz Kanikco-founder and Game Director of this new project.
Jedrzej Frost, Executive Producer, emphasizes that the studio will grow sustainably, committing to quality, but paying attention to the magnitude of the project: It is clear that, with a planned team of 60 people, they are not going to make AAA the size of Cyberpunk 2077.
This is the official website for Blank, a studio we hope to hear from again in a few years with their first post-apocalyptic game.
