During last night’s PlayStation Showcase there was a moment in which many held their breath and, perhaps, even a tear.
We’re referring to when Capcom captured worldwide attention with the trailer for the highly anticipated action RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2, but also the melee mash-up for the upcoming Street Fighter 6 and the first look at Resident Evil 4 VR Mode provided exclusively on PlayStation VR2, Sony’s virtual reality of which we have told you about its strengths and weaknesses in the our review.
The first Dragon’s Dogma was released in 2012 and since then the series has sold over 7.2 million units worldwide, as well as inspiring a Netflix original animated series. Dragon’s Dogma 2 was announced at the beginning of the “Dragon’s Dogma 10th Anniversary” celebration and this new trailer allowed us to take a closer look at the fantasy world created using immersive physics, character AI and the latest new graphics from Capcom’s RE ENGINE. The trailer – which you can find a little further on – also introduced some of the key characters that the Arisens will meet as they forge their destiny.
Ascend, Arisen, and Defeat the Dragon in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a dungeon, where the dragon’s voice echoes in the mist of lost memories. With his heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as he soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that burn everything in his path. Where the realms of human and feral meet, a hero rises to fulfill his forgotten destiny and reclaim the throne.. Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen on its journey. Pawns create the feel of a cooperative gaming experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisens. Here is the trailer:
This single-player narrative-driven action RPG will challenge players to use their creativity and curiosity to shape their experience. Whether it is the calling of one’s Arisen, the Pawns selected for one’s team or the approach to multifaceted game situations, the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 revolves around choice. Capcom’s RE ENGINE promises vividly detailed, high-fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex, responsive character AI, all of which help create an environment where decisions and their consequences come to life. Both Pawns and enemies will dynamically react to the player’s actions on the battlefield and their fighting style, whether based on swords, bows or magic.
Get out on the street:
Street Fighter 6 is preparing for its imminent global release and showed new scenes from the World Tour, the new single-player story mode set in the Street Fighter universe that we gave you a sneak peek at in this preview. From interacting with all 18 legendary Masters like Chun-Li and Ryu, to discovering the true meaning of strength, players will travel through open world areas customizing their own personal avatar by mixing and matching fighting styles and special moves. Here is the trailer:
Street Fighter 6, out June 2, represents the next evolution of the Street Fighter series with a combo of unique innovations – the thought goes to the highly versatile controls, the extreme customization of your avatar and the Drive Gauge systemabove all – and rich in content in three completely new game modes: Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
Experience the cutting edge of immersion with Resident Evil 4 VR Mode:
The PlayStation Showcase also offered a first look at gameplay from the free Resident Evil 4 VR Mode DLC (coming exclusively to PlayStation VR2 for those who own the game on PlayStation5). The occasion was useful to show how the PlayStationVR2 Sense controller makes fundamental game systems even more immersive and intuitive like parrying enemy attacks. Here is the trailer:
That’s it, for the moment and waiting for Capcom to fill us with information on the three heavyweights. More information on Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Resident Evil 4 VR Mode will be revealed soon, while for more details on Street Fighter 6, you can visit the official site.
