CINJUR VOICE – Without a doubt, the announcement of Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate from PDIP has changed the political dynamics.
Many parties instantly approached. Various figures also put themselves forward as vice presidential candidates for Ganjar.
The Chairperson of the PDIP, Megawati Soekarnoputri, even said that there were more than 10 names of vice presidential candidates for Ganjar.
One figure that has attracted attention is Budi Gunawan (BG). The head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) is being actively pushed to become Ganjar’s vice presidential candidate.

In fact, a volunteer group has been formed called the Ganjar-Budi Gunawan Volunteer Front (Begawan).
Looking back, this is not the first time BG has appeared as a vice presidential candidate.
In the 2019 Presidential Election, BG’s name was also mentioned as Joko Widodo’s vice presidential candidate (Jokowi).
Although BG is considered to have sufficient experience to assist Ganjar, there are fundamental problems that need attention.
According to the Executive Director of Grassroots Strategic Consulting (ARSC), Dimas Oky Nugroho, his position as Head of BIN makes BG’s name less widely known.

“BG has network and experience. However, as Head of BIN, his profile may still be closed from public exposure,” said Dimas.
Analyzing deeper, the essence of Dimas’ statement is actually the difference between how intelligence works and how democracy works.
The essence of intelligence work is to maintain secrecy, while in a democracy, accountability is important.
