Overwatch 2 came as a controversial sequel as many believed it was unnecessary and that Blizzard could simply keep updating Overwatch. That being said, the company had ambitious plans, such as making it free-to-play and integrating robust PvE elements. Unfortunately, his original plans for the latter were cancelled.
According to information from GameSpot, Blizzard confirmed that the Hero Mode that was planned to be Overwatch 2’s PvE offering, and which we first saw at BlizzCon 2019, was cancelled. The above since the development team made the decision to take this game mode in another direction.

Aaron Keller, director of Overwatch 2 and Jared Neuss, executive producer, explained that they made this decision for the good of the game and its multiplayer component. The above since they considered that they were not going to be able to execute it in the way in which they wanted to do it.
“The development of any game is a process. In the years after our announcement at BlizzCon 2019, we had a really big part of our team working on the PvE side of that game, and I think players of our game as a service could feel that because we finally stopped making content for it. .
It’s been about 2 1/2 years since the last hero we released, and we don’t want to go back to the point where it’s been another 3 1/2 years since a PvP map was released. So we took a hard look at what we were doing with game-as-a-service in service of this much bigger thing that we were working on and hoped to release later,” Keller explained.

Overwatch 2 will have a PvE offer for its players
Now, it is important to specify that Blizzard canceled its original plans for PvE; however, the reality is that Overwatch 2 will receive content of this kind, it will just be different.
It will be in Season 6 that Overwatch 2 receives its first batch of PvE content. They will be story missions that players can play with their friends or strangers. The difference between them and Hero Mode is that they will be similar to what Blizzard has already released for Overwatch.
