Survival horror games have been getting a second wind in recent years, and from newcomers to classic franchise revivals, the level of widespread critical and commercial success the genre is enjoying continues to seem more impressive by the day. Last year, THQ Nordic confirmed that he would also try to take a piece of that pie with the announcement of a reboot of Alone in the Dark, and while details about the game have been scarce since then, that will change very soon.
THQ Nordic has announced an Alone in the Dark Spotlight. Scheduled for May 25 at 5 PM PT, the live stream will see members of the Pieces Interactive development team providing “answers to some of the most pressing questions surrounding the game.” Presumably, gameplay footage will be shown.
Serving as a reimagining of the original Alone in the Dark trilogy, the upcoming reboot is being directed by Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA’s Mikael Hedberg. With its third-person over-the-shoulder perspective and significant visual leap from him, he seems to be taking a lot of cues from the 2019 Resident Evil remake of 2.
THQ Nordic also has a Digital Showcase scheduled for August 11, where the publisher has confirmed that it will show more of Alone in the Dark, along with other upcoming titles.
Alone in the Dark is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
