Actress Alexandra Shipp played Ororo Munroe in the latest X-Men movies and has now revealed her mental health challenges.
Alexandra Shipp has surprised her fans with a video on her social networks where she explains her fight against depression while filming the X-Men movies. Since she has wanted to take advantage of the fact that May is the month of mental health awareness to reveal the lowest moments of her and how she came to consider suicide.
“Being bipolar IS NOT EASY. That voice can be loud. She tells me to hurt myself. It shows images of various ways to do it. It can be deafening. At the time, (shooting 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix), I was struggling with my self-esteem. I felt unworthy, insufficient and alone. I trained myself to be the best Storm that I could be and was constantly told that I wasn’t enough. As a black woman in Hollywood, I am constantly compared to others and forced to compare myself. It is demeaning and can take its toll. So I suffered in silence. I fell asleep. I also isolated myself. I sided with the thoughts that told me the world would be better off without me. When people ask me if I’m going to reprise my role, I say no. I don’t need to go back to her.” confesses Alexandra Shipp.

It must be remembered that the film X-Men: Dark Phoenix had a very hard filming and on top of that the result was not as expected, being one of the worst movies in recent superhero cinema.
The actress tries to encourage those who are going through the same thing.
“I look back at moments like this, where I should be at my highest, and only see the lowest. I didn’t have to suffer, but I chose to because I thought no one would care or notice. No. I don’t want to be a burden to anyone. But we are not a burden, we are beacons. We are the light at the end of the tunnel. We are magnificent. Don’t wait for happiness, run towards it”.
