Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King briefly covered up the labor scandal that became public in recent years. Cases of harassment, abuse, and different types of violence marked the successful video game company and while its present and future as part of Microsoft are being debated before the regulators, the problem with its workers is close to having a not very encouraging result.
Activision Blizzard is close to getting away with its labor scandal
According to a report by The Gamer, Activision Blizzard sent the payment of $18 million distributed among hundreds of workers who accused the company of cases of abuse, harassment and violence in a lawsuit carried out by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Employment (EEOC). This agreement was controversial at the time because it was considered that the amount offered by Activision was too small to cover the damages suffered by the workers, in addition to the fact that specialists in labor law and leaders of union groups indicated that it could set a negative precedent since that then any company in the sector could get away with it in exchange for that amount.

The $18 million deal could affect the largest lawsuit against Activision
Unfortunately, Activision Blizzard’s compliance with the remittance of the $18 million is considered acceptance of the agreement between the company and the affected workers. Worse still, those employees who accept the amount will have to do so at the cost of not being part of any lawsuit process related to the employment situation at the video game company. Basically, by accepting the money they can no longer be considered as witnesses, or plaintiffs, or anything like that against Activision.
Currently, it is feared that the closing of this agreement will affect the largest, and most important, lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, since it will not be able to count on the hundreds of affected employees who agreed to receive a certain amount of those $18 million dollars.
On the other hand, the report includes the response of Activision Blizzard and a representative pointed out that the company continues not to accept the cases of harassment and abuse that have motivated the lawsuits.
