KIEV – Ukrainian media reported a series of explosions in the capital and several other cities. Air defenses were activated to repel a suspected Russian drone and missile attack on Thursday morning (4/5/2023).
“Several explosions were heard in Kiev after the municipality warned residents about the attacks coming at around 02:00 local time,” UNIAN news agency reported.
At the same time, an explosion was reported in Odessa, the RBC Ukraine news agency reported.
Locals are sharing unconfirmed photos and videos of the claimed attack on Telegram.
Calls on the public to heed the warnings about the missile threat also came from the Nikolayev, Poltava, Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk regions.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has so far not commented on the reports of the latest attack.
The reported attack came after Ukraine allegedly launched two drone strikes intended to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin residence.
The drone was brought down using electronic warfare measures and caused no casualties or damage, according to the Russian president’s office.
“We consider this a premeditated terrorist act and an attempt against the Russian president,” the message from the Kremlin read.
“Russia reserves the right to retaliate in any manner, place and time of its choosing,” the statement said.
