MOSCOW – As a controversial leader, Russian President Vladimir Putin is a target for assassination. Many people believe that if Putin dies, then Europe will be relatively calm, at least the Ukrainian war will end.
Due to having a super tight guard, the scenario for killing Putin was carefully planned. In the various events of the murder plan, there are several different ways. It shows the plan was carried out by someone who has a grudge or a certain mission.
Here are 5 scenarios of Putin’s assassination that ended in failure.
1. Using Drones
In early May 2023, the Russian government revealed that Ukraine had attempted to launch a drone attack on the Kremlin at night to kill Putin. Kiev denies this. However, the United States (US) also heard information about drone attacks in the heart of Putin’s power.
The Russian military shot down two drones that tried to penetrate Putin’s residence within the Kremlin walls. “We consider this act a premeditated terrorist act and an attempted assassination of the president,” the Kremlin said. Fortunately, Putin was not in the Kremlin at the time of the attack. Russia said no one was injured and there was no material damage from falling shrapnel from the shattered drone.
The presidential adviser to Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that the scenario for Putin’s assassination could have been the resistance of local forces. Podolyak accused the Kremlin of using this incident as a pretext to justify large-scale attacks on civilians in Ukraine.
Previously, at the start of Ukraine’s war against Russia, around March 2022, President Putin was also the target of an assassination plot. At that time, the Head of the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov revealed that the assassination plan failed. “He (Putin) was attacked in the ranks. This is non-public information. Completely failed attempt, but it really happened,” he said.
