History of National Education Day
He commemorated National Education Day or National Education Day to commemorate the struggle of Raden Mas Soewardi Soerjaningrat or who is familiar with the name Ki Hajar Dewantara.

The choice of May 2 as National Education Day coincided with the birthday of Ki Hadjar Dewantara which fell on May 2, 1889 in Yogyakarta.
During the Dutch colonial period, Ki Hadjar Dewantara criticized and opposed educational policies at that time. Because of this, he was exiled to the Netherlands.
When he returned to his homeland in 1918, Ki Hajar Dewantara was even more enthusiastic about advancing education in Indonesia. He also built an educational institution on July 3, 1922 known as Taman Siswa.
Taman Siswa is a school that was founded as a form of struggle against colonialism through education and culture. The purpose of establishing this school is of course also for Indonesian independence.
Therefore, to commemorate Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s struggle in developing education in Indonesia, the Government inaugurated May 2 as National Education Day or Hardiknas.
