SYDNEY – An old man in Australia went to the mosque to protest the Eid prayers which he considered too noisy. But he was actually interested in Islam and finally became a convert.
The incident was captured on video, which shows the man proclaiming his new faith in both English and Arabic before breaking down in tears.
Haj Hussin Goss, an active Muslim preacher in Australia, shared the clip on his Facebook account and it has now gone viral.
“Welcome our brother to Islam this Eid. This brother came to complain about the noise this morning about Eid (prayers) and go home as a Muslim. Allah is Great,” Goss wrote in his post, as quoted by Doha News, Friday (28/4/2023).
Hassan says at the start of the clip that the old man named Brian lives in a nursing home near the Gold Coast Mosque. Brian comes to complain to him about the sound of the loud Eid prayers being “blasted” on the speakers. Hassan then sat with Brian for 10 to 15 minutes, during which time he spoke to him.
Brian was convinced of his new faith after his encounter with the preacher, making the voluntary decision to convert to Islam.
The clip then shows Hassan reciting the shahada and Brian imitating it.
The rest of the video is filled with Hassan and Brian’s overflowing emotions, while other Muslims in the mosque congratulate Brian.
As the clip quickly went viral online, many social media users praised the preacher for the way he dealt with others even though the person had entered the mosque for the first time to complain.
