MADRID – Spanish woman Ana Obregon made a splash after revealing that she has a baby girl who is biologically her granddaughter. Because the baby is produced from sperm his late son.
Obregon, 68, a local television star, said he had welcomed his baby, conceived by a surrogate mother in the United States (US).
She told Hola magazine! on Wednesday that the father of her baby girl was her late son, Aless Lequio García (27), who died of cancer in 2020.
“This girl is not my daughter, she is my granddaughter,” he said. “This is Aless’s last wish, to bring his own child into the world.”
Prior to his son’s death, Obregón said Aless was encouraged to preserve his sperm sample before starting cancer treatment.
The sample was frozen and stored in New York. Because, he said, surrogacy in any form is illegal in Spain.
The actress said the baby was conceived in June 2022 and born on March 20, 2023 in Miami. Identification of the baby’s mother or potential egg donor is still unknown.
Via Instagram, Obregón shared a photo of himself on the cover of Hola! alongside a heartfelt message to his late son.
“My Aless, I promised to save you from cancer and I let you down. I promised you that I would bring your daughter into the world and here she is in my arms,” read the translation of her now-viral Instagram post.
