WASHINGTON – An amateur MMA (mixed martial arts) fighter in United States of America (US) was arrested by the police on charges of killing an Air Force soldier.
Ross Johnson (23), from Illinois, killed soldier Dayvon Larry (31) with just one punch during a bar fight in Florida last Sunday. Video footage of the fight has gone viral.
Johnson is now charged with murder and is being held on $250,000 bail, according to jail records.
Panama City Police allege Johnson and a group of friends got into a verbal altercation with another group at the Coyote Ugly Saloon in Panama Beach City, where he assaulted US Air Force Airman Class 1 Dayvon Larry.
As Johnson ran to help a friend, he allegedly hit Larry behind the left ear. This is the police report obtained by the Law and Crime Network.
The soldier was unconscious and unguarded in the parking lot when Johnson took an Uber to a nearby hotel.
NBC News reported that Larry, of Malone, Florida, did not participate in the dispute between the two warring factions.
Larry, who was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“Dude, I hit the guy,” Johnson told a witness, according to police. “I laid him down, and I think I killed him.”
