ALGIERS – Do one cat This calico went viral after climbing on the shoulders of the Taraweeh prayer imam in a crowded mosque in Bordj Bou Arreridj, Algeria.
The orange, black and white cat then wagged its tail to the cheek of the prayer priest named Walid Mehsas. He also studied the priest’s face.
Imam Walid was not disturbed and instead responded by gently stroking him while continuing to pray.
The incident took place on Monday night. According to the video footage posted on Imam Walid’s Facebook page, this small calico cat initially tried to attract his attention by pawing at his feet, but Imam Walid ignored it.
Tired of not getting the priest’s attention, the cat immediately jumped into the priest’s stomach and climbed onto his shoulders. The priest was not disturbed, but instead gently caressed the cute cat while continuing his prayer.
The cat then stroked the priest’s cheek with its tail and licked his face, before jumping off him.
This isn’t the first time a cat has decided to take part in a religious event.
In 2020, a tabby cat named Tiger interrupted Canterbury Pastor Robert Willis’ morning sermon to sip milk from a jug.
On a separate occasion in 2021, the same cat ate Willis’ breakfast pancakes on camera.
The priest didn’t seem to mind, and lightly stroked the cat with his finger while reciting verses from the Bible.
