WASHINGTON – At least five people died, including an 8-year-old child, in a house in Cleveland, Texas, United States of America (USA) after a man went berserk when his neighbors complained of noise from gunshots. This was disclosed by the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.
San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said the perpetrator, who is still at large, was firing a shotgun in his driveway when neighbors asked him to stop because a baby was trying to sleep. The suspect then opened fire on the neighbours.
“The victims, they come to the fence and say, ‘Hey, can you not shoot in the yard. We have a little baby who is trying to sleep,’” Capers said as quoted by CNN, Sunday (30/4/2023).
The suspect, who was drinking, replied: “I’ll do what I want in my front yard.”
The sheriff said authorities found the victims Friday night after receiving a report around 11:30 p.m. local time.
Capers said the camera on the doorbell of the victims’ home at several points caught the suspect approaching with his shotgun.
“Many people were shot around the residence,” Capers said.
“The two female victims in the bedroom used their bodies to protect the two small children who survived,” he added.
“They were trying to take care of their babies and keep their babies alive,” Capers said of the victims.
