DUBAI – United Arab Emirates (UAE) astronaut Sultan Al-Neyadi made history Friday when he became the first Arab astronaut to undertake a spacewalk.
The space travel 408 km above the surface of the earth made him the highest flying Arab citizen in history.
Al-Neyadi (41) ventured outside the International Space Station (ISS) with astronaut Stephen Bowen for six and a half hours.
Their mission involves replacing communications hardware installed on the outside of an orbiting science laboratory.
Al-Neyadi wore an EMU spacesuit specially designed for spacewalking and made of 16 layers of material.
He joins an elite group of just 259 astronauts who have left the ISS since construction began in 1998.
