SYDNEY – This Australian woman lived with a disability for most of her life. The condition made him never feel sexual experience even in your 40s.
Melanie Hawkes was born with a rare condition that causes paralysis of her legs. He has used a wheelchair since he was a toddler.
In an open interview with Take 5 magazine, Hawkes, from Perth, revealed how his recent health scare led to an epiphany that changed his life for the better.
At the age of two, Hawkes was diagnosed with transverse myelitis—a neurological disorder caused by inflammation of the spinal cord. It resulted in paralysis in his legs and limited movement in his arms.
Hawkes received his first wheelchair at the age of three, and has been using a wheelchair ever since.
More than four decades later, at 43 years old, Hawkes has never had any sexual experience. “Growing up, the only time sex was mentioned was when my parents warned my three brothers not to get a girl pregnant before marriage. It wasn’t like I could just sneak out, so they didn’t worry about me,” Hawkes told Take 5 .
But in 2022, a massage by her support worker awakens a renewed interest in intimacy like she’s never experienced before.
At the time, Hawkes was recovering from a bout of Covid-19 and was suffering from a strained neck after a night of sleeping upright to help his breathing.
That day, his support worker was giving him a bath when he offered to massage Hawkes’ neck to relieve the pain.
