Two days from Milan, with an eighth place after the beautiful and clear victory at home against Atalanta, Thiago Motta repeats a basic term three times. “You need humility – says the Bologna coach who has collected 37 points in 23 games – but also awareness of our strengths”.
And again: “The victory in Bergamo does not give us any particular pressure other than the usual desire to improve and the obligation to give our best even with the big teams that are playing (or are already competing) for the Champions League, such as Atalanta and Milan”.

The idea is that players enjoy playing along Motta’s lines. “We have fun? It’s true – Thiago resumes -: we try to play football and collectively with everyone going in the same direction and hearing him recognized is a great compliment. Milan? Beautiful match to play, for the moment, due to the full stadium (28,000 tickets already sold), and because we have to continue on the same path. Commitment, fun and a smile are the ingredients that make a job better. Orsolini will be missed, due to disqualification: he was wrong to get the yellow card and we talked about it. Zirkzee has enormous potential, of a very high level, and I want much, much, much more from him.”

Thiago speaks of smiles and remembers his arrival. “We have to be a team, always. The enthusiasm of the people outside is fantastic and it’s nice that we transmit joy; the enthusiasm within Casteldebole is fine but it must be put into the things we control, doing the best for us and for our partner, always trying to be professional to the max: the present counts and in the present there is Milan and we want to get to a great result. Soriano ko? I am very sorry for our captain, but he will help from the outside. How did I lift the team? I arrived at a moment that happens in football: we did everything to ensure that we could be who we are today. Europe? I think of Milan. The future? I think of Milan, then every day we talk to each other to be able to grow and compete and have ambition. The praise? Too many (smiles, ed) too many… but the merit of having character and personality goes all to the boys”.
