An agreement has been reached with Amazon Prime Video which holds the exclusive rights to the best match on Wednesday: the first semi-final will therefore be seen on the channel owned by Sky
Sky’s TV8 will broadcast the first leg of the Champions League semi-final between Milan and Inter in clear format. Prime Video, which has the exclusive on the best match on Wednesday, in this case cannot be the only one to broadcast the images of May 10 given that an Agcom provision provides that for events “of particular relevance to society” guaranteed unencrypted dissemination. After probing the interest of all broadcasters – from Rai to Mediaset up to Discovery – the choice fell on Sky which already holds the Champions League rights and which with Mediaset will broadcast the second leg.
THE SITUATION
—
In the list that defines the “events that television broadcasters cannot broadcast exclusively, in order to ensure that at least 80% of the Italian population can follow them on a free schedule without additional costs” there are in fact also “the final and the semi-finals of the Champions League and the Europa League if Italian teams are involved”. So Prime was forced to choose after an evaluation that lasted about a week.
