Without a doubt, The Exorcist (1973) is one of the best-known horror films in cinema history, so making a restart now is quite complex.
Producer Jason Blum has achieved success thanks to risking a lot, as he has made low-budget films such as Paranormal Activity (2007), Insidious (2010), Sinister (2012), Let Me Out (2017) or M3GAN (2017) very profitable. 2022). In a recent interview with Indiewire, Jason Blum said:
“The riskiest film I have ever made has not yet been released. It’s The Exorcist. Just because it’s too expensive. Usually, the bar for success in everything we do is financially low. But this time it is high. Not a high risk for Blumhouse. Obviously we have already been paid, but it is a high risk for our partners. So when you ask me what’s the riskiest thing we’ve ever worked on, I take it as us or our financial partners. In the case of The Exorcist, that would be the biggest, because it’s a high risk for Universal.”
Returning for the new film are Ellen Burstyn as Chris MacNeil and Linda Blair as Regan MacNeil, the original possessed girl in the 1973 classic.

What is the original movie about?
The Exorcist is a horror film directed by William Friedkin and written by William Peter Blatty, which is based on his 1971 novel of the same name. The plot centers on Regan MacNeil, a twelve-year-old girl who lives with her actress mother in Georgetown. After playing with a Ouija board, Regan begins to experience strange and violent behavior changes. When her condition worsens, her mother seeks medical and psychiatric help, but none of the conventional therapies seem to help.
Eventually, a priest named Damien Karras is called in to investigate Regan’s situation and, along with Father Lankester Merrin, determines that Regan is possessed by a demon. The priests perform an exorcism to free Regan from her demonic possession, and though they are successful, they pay a personal price for her fight against evil.
