The OLED and Neo QLED televisions that Samsung is proposing to us this year are ready to hit stores. And they will land with juicy news. For us, the most interesting thing is the improvements that this brand has introduced in its second generation QD-OLED panels. The matrices of 2022 were on paper capable of delivering peaks of 1,500 nits, but the new iteration panels rub, according to Samsung, los 2.000 nits.
In addition, it promises us something important: its new QD-OLED panels deliver this brightness without degrading the color. It will be interesting to put them to the test when they fall into our hands with quality HDR content. Reliability, on the other hand, has also improved. According to this brand, their useful life is longer and they minimize the probability of static image retention occurring on the panel. However, so far we have only scratched the surface. These are the televisions with which Samsung will address the high-end this year.

This year Samsung launches two TVs with organic matrix. Its flagship OLED proposal is the S95C model. It incorporates a second-generation QD-OLED panel, which, as I mentioned above, according to this brand manages to deliver peak brightness of 2,000 nits in a window that occupies 10% of the panel surface. I have had the opportunity to see it in action, and my first feelings are very positive due to its subjective ability to deliver shine and its colorimetry.
Its blacks are abyssal, as befits an OLED TV. On the other hand, like the other proposals of this brand, it can play HDR10 +, HDR10 and HLG content, but not Dolby Vision. A shame. Of course, all its HDMI inputs implement the 2.1 standard. And its sound is careful (at least on paper). It virtualizes Dolby Atmos audio and incorporates 4.2.2 channels driven by various class D amplifiers with a combined power of 70 watts.
In the table that we published a little above we can see that the specifications of the S90C model are similar to those of the S95C. We haven’t been able to confirm this with Samsung, so we’re not entirely sure, but we suspect that the organic panel on this TV is a first generation QD-OLED matrix. We suspect this mostly because its brightness delivery capability is slightly lower than the S95C’s. Even so, in theory the image processing of the S90C is more polished than that of the 2022 QD-OLED model. When we have more reliable information about the type of panel of the S90C we will share it with you.
On the other hand, the connectivity of these two new OLED televisions is essentially identical, although only the S95C offers us a One Connect module. Lastly, the S90C’s sound is a bit less ambitious than the flagship OLED model. It processes Dolby Atmos audio and restores 2.1 channels driven by several class D amplifiers with a combined power of 40 watts. If we stick to its specifications, we find the S95C more attractive, but we cannot ignore that it is also significantly more expensive. The 55-inch version of the S90C costs 2,399 euros, while the S95C of the same size goes up to 2,699 euros.

As in previous years, the Neo QLED range that Samsung offers us in 2023 is very wide. The QN900C, QN800C and QN700C models have a VA-type LCD panel with 8K resolution, while the QN95C and QN90C incorporate a matrix of the same type, but 4K UHD. In the specifications table we can see that the native refresh rate of the panels is different. There are 120, 100 and 50 Hz, although, yes, all of them can work at higher frequencies, up to 144Hzwith video games using interpolation techniques.
Samsung ensures that the image processing that its engineers have implemented in this year’s Neo QLED TVs is more advanced than in previous waves. In addition, all these models implement mini-LED backlighting, and this brand promises us that the diode matrix management algorithms are more accurate and faster than ever. It will be interesting to check when we have the opportunity to analyze these televisions in our own facilities.
Beyond the resolution, the panel’s native refresh rate, and its mini-LED backlighting scheme, these TVs also differentiate themselves through their sound and connectivity. The QN900C has the most ambitious audio, and interestingly enough, the QN800C and QN95C, which is the flagship Neo QLED model with 4K UHD resolution, have the same sound. On the other hand, only the QN900C and QN800C have Wi-Fi 6E connectivity. The others offer us Wi-Fi 5. Of course, all of them give us four HDMI 2.1 inputs. One last note to conclude: only the 8K models come with the One Connect module.
