Samsung introduced its new smart screens with QLED and OLED technology that allow us to play Xbox Game Pass Ultimate without the need for a console. The new panels, in addition to boasting many improvements, include Xbox Cloud Gaming as an exclusive application. All you need is one controller and you’re ready to play.
All these novelties were announced during the presentation of the new Samsung devices. In this space, they talked about the brand’s interest in creating an interconnected space and, at the same time, promoting the use of technologies in favor of ecology. One of these advances is the SolarCell Remote device that eliminates the use of batteries in the remote control.
During the talk they presented us with the Neo QLED models in their 4K version (QN90C and QN85C) ranging from 43 to 85 inches, while the 8K version (QN800C and QN900C) can be found in 85 and 90 inches. On the other hand, the 4K OLED model (S90C and S95C) cover 55 and 66 inches. Added to these is the 77-inch size exclusive to the S95C model. Each device has unique features such as HDR Remastering, Anti-Glare Panel and more than 33 million pixels for Neo QLED 8K models.
In addition to having dedicated spaces to be able to check the quality of the new smart displays, we were able to enter a room dedicated to Xbox. There, we tested Samsung’s exclusive app for playing some Xbox Game Pass Ultimate titles directly on TVs.
You can purchase the screen that fits your needs
We take advantage of the invitation to test the QN90C model, a screen that promises to improve the experience for players. The Samsung team told us that this model in its 50 and 43-inch versions reach a resolution of 4K up to 144hz on PC thanks to the AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certification. This gaming-focused model has 4 HDMI 2.1 inputs; 5.4 ms input lag and game mode. This function removes modifiers that can affect game performance and shows us an indicator of the frames per second of the content played on the screen.
In addition to the aforementioned, the Samsung screen allows us to play through Xbox Cloud Gaming if we have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership. All we need is a controller and sync it to the screen. During the show we had the opportunity to play Halo Infinite. The performance of the game was very good although at times the deficiencies of the internet connection caused occasional problems. This was reflected in the image quality and frozen screens which we did take a few bullets for, but for the most part we had a good gaming experience.
Another title that we were able to play was Guilty Gear -Strive-, a good option to test the response speed between the controller and the screen. With this fighting game it took us a while to adapt to performance below 60 frames per second. This is an important factor when using precise combos and although you can get used to it, we experienced a very different feeling. For this reason, it is recommended to use a console if you are interested in competitive play even though the screen performance is acceptable.
After these tests we can say that the possibility of playing just by turning on your screen is very satisfactory. On the other hand, the QN90C model is a good option to connect your console and play natively with good image quality and response.
Turn on your screen and start playing
