Such a splendid Salernitana was difficult to imagine. Concrete in front and attentive behind, Paolo Sousa’s team thanks to this 3-0 put three very heavy points in the safe, also setting their own record in Serie A: they had never reached eight consecutive useful results. This time everything was easy against a Sassuolo who had never played a game: after 20 minutes the hosts already closed a game that on paper was very insidious given the form of the Emilians, returning from the blow against Juve. Instead, the grenades, thanks to goals from Pirola and Dia in the first half and Coulibaly in the second half, achieved a very important success in the race for salvation, which Verona had completely reopened on Friday evening by beating Bologna. Salernitana, who hadn’t won since the end of February (3-0 at Monza), avenge the 5-0 immediately in the first leg and above all, now, they are seven points above the third from bottom place and can breathe, before the two difficult games they have at the horizon against Napoli and Fiorentina.

Sassuolo, however, still without Berardi, responds with the usual 4-3-3 with Defrel at the center of the attack. The Campania players start very fast and pass after nine minutes: action from a corner, Candreva throws it in the middle and Pirola heads in the very booed Consigli. Sassuolo tries to react by pushing to the left with Laurienté, but it is Salernitana who double up in the 20th minute thanks to an action started by Dia and finished by the same Senegalese striker who beats Consigli after a good bank from Botheim. At that point Salernitana pulls back the center of gravity and Sassuolo takes over the reins of the game but first Laurienté’s shot goes just wide, then Frattesi finds Ochoa’ in his way. In the second half Dionisi removes Frattesi and puts in Pinamonti who goes to play the first striker with Bajrami behind him and Defrel and Laurienté on the wing. Not much changes: Sassuolo struggles to find space and to find a first opportunity for the neroverdi you have to wait for a lack of attention from the defense of the hosts, but Ferrari’s left foot ends just wide. It wasn’t exactly a day for Sassuolo and shortly after, in the 65th minute, Salernitana’s third goal arrived with Coulibaly who, on an assist from Dia, flattened Consigli again. The game basically ends here, with the celebration of the 20,000 Arechis cheering Paulo Sousa who, since his arrival, in nine games, has lost only on his debut against Lazio.
