New face to face between the Rossoneri president Scaroni and the mayor. The club would like to stay in the city but it urgently needs to proceed
The new stadium isn’t just a priority, it’s an urgency. Milan is in a hurry to welcome the fans to its own, modern and multifunctional facility.
Time will play a fundamental role in the match with the institutions: ahead with La Maura, which the president Scaroni and the mayor of Milano Sala discussed yesterday too, if it will be possible to follow a quick lineup and quickly move on to the executive phase. This will happen, in turn, if there aren’t too many obstacles along the entire bureaucratic process. With the road clear, full speed ahead. Otherwise the club will follow alternative routes which will probably lead outside the city limits.
Yesterday a new chapter was written: before attending the Lega assembly in the morning, Scaroni met Sala at Palazzo Marino. A quick appointment in which the Rossoneri president updated the mayor on the steps that will lead the club to present a project for the former racecourse area. It is the second summit in eight days, after last Thursday’s which was also attended by Gerry Cardinale, number one of RedBird, owner of AC Milan. On this occasion, the club had expressed its willingness to continue in the area in question, reserving a couple of weeks for the presentation of the project including the stadium, sports center for the youth team and women’s team, and museum. Soon Milan will present a more defined rendering to Sala (who would like to keep the Rossoneri in the city): the parties have already agreed to meet again shortly.
The path is thus traced. Scaroni has always been at the forefront on the front. Cardinale follows at a distance, after clearly expressing his preferences. Even in public: “In the ideal world, staying in the area of the Municipality of Milan is a priority but we will still coldly evaluate which will be the best opportunity”, he said a few days ago from London. The area in the city is La Maura, a green area to the north-west, one kilometer from San Siro: the land is part of the Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, with consequent environmental problems, which have already emerged. The uncommon alternatives remain Sesto, San Donato, and any other options not yet revealed.
