The first details about The Last of Us 2 begin to appear. The HBO series, created by Neil Druckmann, poses big changes.
Neil Druckmann has announced changes to The Last of Us 2. In a recent interview, the HBO series showrunner and director of Naughty Dog’s first two video games addressed a key season two story element that likely won’t make it into the series.

Future Days may be replaced by another Pearl Jam song in #TheLastofUs Season 2
“We have talked about it”, says Druckmann

Throughout the story of Part Two, the 2013 Pearl Jam song titled “Future Days” features prominently, as it’s something Joel passes on to Ellie between the events of the first and second games. However, since HBO’s adaptation of the hit PlayStation title pushed the day of the explosion back ten years, now there’s no way Joel learned the Pearl Jam song before the world ended. Therefore, it would not appear in The Last of Us 2 as Neil Druckmann rightly says.
The “Future Days” song will not be in the series
Neil Druckmann told Kinda Funny that discussions are being held on the withdrawal of the song in The Last of Us 2. “I could tell you that we have not made a decision,” said the showrunner of the HBO series. “We have talked about it for those same reasons that you have mentioned, that now it does not make sense that Joel knows that song. Now we could say, ‘Okay, it’s a parallel dimension and the song came out earlier.’ There are ways, but that seems a bit cheating.”

The artist added that even though “Future Days” probably won’t appear in The Last of Us 2, it looks like something will take its place. Neil Druckmann noted that “there are other songs they could play” by Pearl Jam in particular. We’ll see what ends up happening eventually.
